Even in the age of the internet, infomercials are still a popular method of advertising for unique products that otherwise wouldn’t get any traction in stores. Usually these As Seen On TV products fall into the category of unbelievable. Certainly many of us have made a middle-of-the-night purchase during a bout of insomnia that we later regret because the product didn’t work as advertised. But in this Smart Swab review, you’ll find that the opposite is true.
By all accounts, Smart Swab seems to be one of those As Seen ON TV products that actually works. Keep scrolling for our comprehensive Smart Swab review and learn how the product works, why you should use it, and how it compares to other wax removal products.
Smart Swab Review: What Is Smart Swab?
Immediately out the gate, Smart Swab establishes itself as a safe and effective means of removing earwax build-up. Smart Swab offers a better way of cleaning the ear, especially for those among us who find it too easy to push a Q-Tip too deep into our ear, which admittedly does cause the pain Smart Swab cautions against.
Smart Swab is a patented earwax removal tool and ear cleaner that is designed to remove earwax without the risk of injuring the eardrum or impaired hearing. The design itself is innovative. In our Smart Swab review, we really dug into the product design. The Smart Swab has two parts: a long handle with a comfort grip fit for young and adult hands alike, and a soft silicone head that is the perfect length to be inserted into the ear canal, twist and latch onto wax, and safely extract the wax without touching the eardrum.
The makers of Smart Swab recommend using the product once or twice a week, depending on your personal level of earwax production. The average person can use Smart Swab weekly to remove excess earwax, maintain a clean ear canal, and enjoy a healthy ear.
Do I Really Need to Remove Earwax?
Earwax is secreted by special glands in your ear canal and does serve a purpose to temporarily repell water and protect against sound damage and infection. Earwax is also supposed to dry up and fall out naturally, taking dirt and other debris with it as it goes.
For some people, earwax is a problem. Depending entirely on genetics, some people build up earwax to an uncomfortable degree, which can cause damage to the ear canal, discomfort, and impaired hearing. For most of us who don’t have excess build-up, which can require regularly scheduled appointments with an Ear, Nose, and Throat physician, the earwax process is self-regulating and does not need much interference.
According to doctors, most earwax blockages are caused by pushing earwax deeper into the ear canal while trying to remove it with a Q-Tip, which leads to temporary hearing loss, tinnitus, and earaches. Smart Swab seems to be a middle ground solution for people with average to excessive earwax build-up, since it is safer than a Q-Tip and more effective with little or no risk.
Product Specs
At first glance, you might assume that Smart Swab is a product that requires some form of electricity, such as a charge or at least batteries to get it going. But that isn’t the case. In our Smart Swab review, we found that the Smart Swab operates without power. The solid handle is made specifically to give you a good grip to twist the silicone head: there are no batteries hidden inside.
Every Smart Swab kit includes the reusable Smart Swab handle, 16 disposable soft silicone tips, and a storage case to keep everything clean and tidy. What’s even better is that, if you find Smart Swab is a good tool for you to use, you can buy the disposable tips on Amazon in bulk at a fraction of the price, which means clean tips for everyone in the family.
Pricing
And speaking of price, this Smart Swab review isn’t going to sugar coat it. The initial purchase of a Smart Swab kit is a middling ground price that does not include shipping, so it might be a pricier purchase for some people. The Smart Swab with 16 replacement heads will run you around $. Compared to q-tips, this is pretty expensive; but other options we looked at run as much as $$$. Considering that you aren’t in danger of damaging your hearing, though, we think that’s pretty good

5 Stars
Since the Smart Swab does not rely on an electric charge or batteries, the product couldn’t be easier to use. Smart Swab relies on your manual power to twist and extract earwax, so you can go as slowly as you like for your own comfort.
5 Stars
Smart Swab is safe to use, specifically because its unique spiral silicone heads are stout enough that they don’t push all the way into the ear canal. Unlike other ear cleaners, Smart Swab does not make you run the risk of damaging your ear in an effort to remove excess wax build-up.
5 Stars
There really isn’t any other product on the market that is exactly like Smart Swab, so the design itself is unique. Smart Swab is also lightweight and has that cool no-touch disposable feature for the tips, which is also new and innovative.
4 Stars
For people with average build-up of earwax, it might be hard to determine the effectiveness of Smart Swab. However, for those who do have trouble with excess build-up, Smart Swab removes a majority of earwax build-up, which means we can confidently give Smart Swab high ratings for effectiveness.
Debrox Earwax Removal Aid Kit
This kit is a hybrid of an ear cleaning irrigating kit and an earwax softening kit. Debrox Earwax Removal Aid Kit cleanses ear with microfoam action which is a safe, non-irritating method of softening and removing earwax. This kit softens earwax but isn’t exactly clear on how the earwax is actually removed.
2 Stars
The premise of Debrox is simple in that you introduce the washer into your ear canal with a small bottle full of the product. That’s simple enough. More difficult is getting the right angle so that the product doesn’t come out of your ear immediately. Mostly this means that you’re holding your head at a weird angle and that cleaning both ears takes a while.
4 Stars
Debrox is a chemical formula which contains carbamide peroxide 6.5% non USP, but is generally safe and non-irritating. However, all chemicals come with a risk and some people might find this method of ear cleaning more harsh than helpful, especially since the oxygen release as the product foams in your ear gives off a mildly alarming crackling sound.
3 Stars
There is nothing nuanced about the Debrox Earwax Removal Aid. The design is as basic as they come, with a .5 ounce bottle of product to empty into the ear and then rinse with.
2 Stars
Unlike in the Smart Swab review, we cannot promise that the Debrox Earwax Removal Aid Kit will be effective for everyone. Some earwax might be more responsive to this method of cleansing, while other people might be frustrated with a lack of results.

While our Smart Swab review presented a product that has a sleek design, the Doctor Easy Elephant Ear Washer Bottle System is decidedly more intimidating. According to product information, Doctor Easy’s kit includes a trigger handle spray bottle and 3 disposable ear tips. Fill the bottle with an ear cleaning solution, twist on the disposable tip, place the tip into the ear and squeeze the trigger handle to spray the solution into the ear canal.
1 Star
This ear cleaning system is frankly a hassle to use. It involves holding a hose to your ear and manually irrigating the ear with a spray bottle with the other hand, which becomes infinitely more complicated once you switch to your non-dominate side.
2 Stars
With as wishy-washy as an ear irrigation system can be, we have to lower the safety ratings for this product. It seems like it would be very easy to get overzealous with the irritation, which would cause pain.
1 Star
Doctor Easy Elephant Ear Washer Bottle System is bulky, cumbersome, and complicated. In spite of the name, there isn’t anything easy about this ear cleaner. You even have to buy your own solution to use with the system!
1 Star
We are skeptical about the effectiveness of this product. Between the difficulty in holding the hose at the right angle and the demand to manually power the irrigation yourself, we think that the effectiveness of the cleaning might suffer. Plus, this system just seems like a shortcut to getting swimmer’s ear.
Acu-Life Ear Wax Removal Syringe
Sale EZY DOSE Ear Wax Cleaner for Humans, Clear, 1 Count

- EASY USE: Flared design, Prevents over insertion and cleans ears effortlessly
- CAPACITY: Syringe holds up to 20mL of liquid/solution
Unlike the previous ear cleaning irrigation system, the Acu-LIfe Ear Wax Removal syringe is a one-step process. The syringe safely directs fluid to ear canal walls and flared design prevents over-insertion, and it only requires the use of one hand to operate.
4 Stars
The Acu-Life syringe is very easy to use even if you aren’t ambidextrous. The syringe is easy to operate with either hand and doesn’t require any strange contortion of the body to deal with your non-dominant side.
3 Stars
While the irrigation system is powered by your own hand, we again have some reservations about putting water directly into the ear.
4 Stars
The Acu-Life Ear Wax Removal Syringe has such a simple design that is almost artful. The design removes all the messy middle parts that are present in other irrigation systems. All you have in this product is a syringe and a soft tri-stream tip.
4 Stars
The neat thing about this syringe is that you can easily use your own earwax softening solution or just water with ease. The design and use of the syringe is simple enough to be used by anyone, and the product itself seems to deliver as promised for the average user.
Ultimately, this Smart Swab review gives the Smart Swab a 5 out of 5 stars. The final review of the Smart Swab gives the impression of a good product for everyone, including those who have higher than average earwax build-up. It is easier to use than other ear cleaning systems, and Smart Swab is a safe and effective solution to cleaning your ears. While other solutions are also inexpensive and effective, what we really like about Smart Swab is that it does the job without requiring you to put liquid in your ear. We give Smart Swab two thumbs up!
