Eggstractor Review – As Seen On TV Product Reviews

If you’re anything like me, then you would gladly do away with a ton of small menial jobs around the kitchen – such as peeling hardboiled eggs. Since Easter is around the corner and since I generally love eggs, nature’s only true miracle food, I decided to give the Eggstractor automatic egg peeler a shot. Like with just about any other As Seen on TV product, I was a bit mistrustful at first. Will it work? Is it worth the money? Is it as easy to use as the infomercial claims it is? What if I don’t like it and would like to send it back? I’ve gone through the whole process of ordering, purchasing, and using this egg peeling machine, to save you the trouble and give you the honest lowdown in this review.

How the Eggstractor Works

According to this As Seen on TV product’s manufacturer, the product is an automatic egg peeler, which works via a simple mechanism. Just place the egg with the smaller side down, over the ‘eggstracting’ hole. Push – and make sure you give it a good push, in order to drill a small hole both into the peel of the egg, as well as into the skin that forms a small pouch at that end. Once you have your eggs peeled, the infomercial explains, you can use them in a wide range of egg-based recipes, which you can find in the recipe book that accompanies the product. Some of them you already know, like Deviled Eggs or Egg Salad, but others (like Egg Delight and Egg Trifle) will probably be as much of a pleasant surprise for you as they were for me.

Advantages and Disadvantages of the Eggstractor Egg Peeler

Pros:

The recipe book that accompanies the Eggstractor is actually pretty informative. I thought the Egg Trifle looked really appealing and ended up making the recipe for a family dinner, to great success.
The company that manufactures of the egg peeler is upfront enough about their return policy. You can return the product within 30 days from the purchase, together with the original invoice, and expect to get your money back – save for shipping and handling, of course. A sales tax applies to New Jersey residents. Bear that in mind before ordering if you live there.

Cons:

Try as you might, the Eggstractor will probably not work for you as well as it does in the As Seen on TV infomercial – or at least not right away.
Many online reviews revile this egg peeler. Those who enjoy it say it takes some getting used to. After all is said and done, it’s up to you how much time and how many eggs you want to waste on getting the hang of an egg peeling machine. I got some of my eggs peeled off right away. Most of them failed and completely wasted the egg. I don’t think I’ll be using this product too much in the future.
The product is made of really cheap looking plastic. I can’t say I’ve experimented with it too much, it’s rather safe to say this material would wear off after some prolonged and intense usage. My product will most likely to end up in the bottom of some kitchen drawer rather than wear out from too much use.

I would recommend skipping this product and purchasing a competing egg peeler such as the Rosle egg cracker.

All in all, I don’t recommend this product. This is not to say that it doesn’t work: it actually did peel off some of the eggs I tested it with. However, the learning curve was steep and, to be honest, I didn’t feel it was worth wasting so much time and effort on this object that’s supposed to make my life simpler. There are plenty of alternatives to get egg peel off quickly, including baking the eggs or boiling them in water with baking soda. So proceed to buying the Eggstractor at your own risk. You’re much better off purchasing one of its many competitors that actually work.
